A many-featured PowerBook application that lets you monitor the battery, predict time remaining and adjust many things adjustable. Includes a handy menubar readout with user settable information such as voltage, time/date, free memory and internal temperatures. Even the screen brightness (all PowerBooks) and contrast (for b/w Duos) can be set via the keyboard or on-screen controls.
Version 2.1 adds network server management and, via the accompanying Synk 1.0 program, folder backup/synchronization.

Network volume management and folder synchronization for all Macintoshes. Synk can be used alone but is fantastic as a companion program to BatteryMinder. When applicable, BM provides a Sync menu for direct access to Synk’s functions.

ResetPwrMgr 1.0 - freeware

Resets the internal PowerManager memory of your PowerBook. This can help when Duos lose their ability to charge their batteries. It has also reportedly helped the new PB 5xx computers when their ‘smart’ batteries go ‘dumb’. Symptoms such as losing most of their charge while sleeping overnight have been solved. I am not sure about the overheating battery problem with the PB 5xx, but it is worth a try.
